Create Your First Content Block

The Content Builder lets you add custom content blocks to your Checkout, Thank You, and Order Status pages — things like announcement banners, trust badges, image banners, countdown timers, reviews, and more. Each block you create goes through three steps: Build, Targeting, and Save.

Getting Started

From the sidebar, navigate to the content section for the page you want to customize:

  • Checkout > Content — content blocks on the checkout page
  • Thank You > Content — content blocks on the thank-you page
  • Order Status > Content — content blocks on the order status/account page
  • Click Create Content Block (or choose a template from the template library) to open the builder.

    Step 1: Build

The Build step is where you design your content block using a visual drag-and-drop editor.

    The Component Menu

On the left side of the builder, you'll find the Component Menu — a categorized library of all available components. Components are organized into these categories:

  • Announcements & Banners — Alert banners, announcement bars, countdown timers, urgency banners
  • Buttons & Links — Call-to-action buttons, text links
  • Content — Text blocks, headings, rich text, dividers, spacers
  • Icons & Badges — Trust badges, icon rows, payment icons
  • Images — Image banners, image with text overlay, logos
  • Layout — Columns, rows, containers, accordion/collapsible sections
  • Progress Bars — Free shipping progress bars, tiered progress bars
  • Reviews & Social Proof — Review cards, star ratings, testimonial blocks
  • Misc — Custom HTML, code blocks
  • You can search across all components by name or description using the search bar at the top of the menu.

    Adding Components

To add a component to your block:

  • Drag and drop a component from the menu into the preview area, or
  • Click a component in the menu to append it to the bottom of your layout
  • When dragging, a position indicator shows exactly where the component will be inserted — including inside layout columns or nested containers.

    Editing Components

Click any component in the preview to select it. The left panel switches to a property editor showing all configurable options for that component — text content, colors, fonts, sizing, alignment, corner radius, and more.

Each component has its own set of properties. For example:

  • A Heading component lets you set the text, font, size, weight, color, and alignment
  • An Image Banner lets you upload an image, set alt text, corner radius, and link URL
  • A Countdown Timer lets you set the end date, display format, and styling
  • Editing a component's properties

    Layout Components

Use Layout components (like Columns) to create multi-column designs. Drag other components into the individual column zones to build side-by-side layouts.

Collapsible sections (accordions) let you create expandable/collapsible content areas — great for FAQs or additional product details.

    Dynamic Tokens

Many text components support dynamic tokens — placeholders that automatically fill in with real data at checkout. Click the { } button in any text field to insert tokens like:

  • {{customer.firstName}} — the customer's first name
  • {{order.total}} — the order total
  • {{shipping.country}} — the shipping country
  • {{store.name}} — your store name
  • {{discounts.savings}} — total discount savings
  • {{date.current}} — today's date
  • Thank You and Order Status pages have additional tokens like {{order.number}}, {{order.confirmationNumber}}, and {{order.processedAt}}.

    Preview Modes

Toggle between Desktop and Mobile preview using the device switcher in the header bar. This lets you see exactly how your block will look on each device.

    Using the Template Library

Instead of building from scratch, you can start from a pre-built template. When creating a new content block, the template library is available with ready-to-use designs organized by:

    Categories:

  • Upsells
  • Progress Bars
  • Image Banners
  • Announcements & Alerts
  • Trust Badges & Icons
  • Reviews & Social Proof
  • Industries (16 options):

Animals & Pet Supplies, Apparel & Accessories, Arts & Entertainment, Baby & Toddler, Electronics, Food & Beverage, Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, and more.

    Use Cases:

Sales & Promotions, Reviews & Social Proof, Information & Alerts, Trust, Social Media, Urgency

Select a template, and it loads directly into the builder with all components pre-configured. You can then customize any part of it — change text, swap images, adjust colors, or add/remove components.

    Step 2: Targeting

The Targeting step controls who sees your content block and when it appears. Click Next in the builder to move to this step.

    Audience Targeting

    Choose between two modes:

  • Show for all customers — everyone sees this block (no conditions)
  • Show when conditions are met — define rules to control visibility
  • Targeting Conditions

When using conditional targeting, you build rules from 30+ available fields organized into these categories:

    Customer:

Customer Tag, Email, First Name, Last Name, Order Count, New Customer, Logged In Status

    Order:

Order Total, Product Count, Has Subscription, Has Gift Card

    Products in Order:

Specific Product, Collection, Product Title, Variant Title, Product Tag, Product Vendor, Product Type

    Shipping Address:

    Country, Province/State, City, Postal Code

    Markets:

    Market, Currency Code

    Discounts:

    Applied Discount Code, Total Savings

    Traffic Source:

UTM Source, UTM Medium, UTM Campaign, UTM Content, UTM Term

    Integrations (when connected):

Klaviyo Lists/Segments, Recharge Subscriber Status, Loyalty Tier, Mailchimp Audiences, Postscript SMS Status

    Each field uses appropriate operators:

  • Text fields: contains, does not contain, is, is not
  • Numeric fields: greater than, less than, equals
  • Boolean fields: is, is not
  • Match Type

When you have multiple conditions, choose how they combine:

  • All conditions must match (AND logic) — every rule must be true
  • Any condition matches (OR logic) — at least one rule must be true
  • Device Targeting

Restrict your block to specific devices:

  • All devices (default)
  • Desktop only
  • Mobile only
  • Scheduling

Optionally set a schedule to control when the block appears:

  • Days of the week — select specific days (e.g., weekends only)
  • Time range — set start and end times
  • Timezone — choose which timezone the schedule follows
  • This is useful for flash sales, weekend promotions, or time-limited announcements.

    Scheduling options

    Step 3: Save

    The final step lets you:

  • Name your block — give it a descriptive internal name (e.g., "Holiday Free Shipping Banner")
  • Review your configuration — check the preview, targeting summary, and schedule
  • Click Save to store your block.

    Save step

    Adding Your Block to Checkout

After saving, your block appears in the content list with a status indicator:

  • Live — currently active in checkout
  • Pending — saved but not yet added
  • Inactive — disabled
  • To activate your block, click the "Add to Checkout" button. This opens a modal that walks you through deploying the block to your checkout page via the Shopify theme editor.

You can also Edit, Duplicate, or Delete any block from the list view using the action menu.

    Tips

  • Use the template library to get started quickly, then customize to match your brand
  • Dynamic tokens make content feel personal — try greeting customers by name or showing their order total
  • Scheduling + targeting together are powerful — for example, show a countdown timer only on weekends for mobile users with carts over $50
  • Preview on both desktop and mobile before saving to make sure your layout looks great everywhere
